Al Dur, also referred to as Ed-Dur or Ed-Dour is the largest pre-Islamic site in the Emirates. It covers an expansive area of approximately 5 square kilometres. The site features a wide variety of funeral arrangements and residential buildings made from local stones. This fort is highly popular in the emirate and is considered one of the top tourist attractions in Ajman. The Red Fort, constructed between 1910 and 1928, served as a royal residence during the reign of Sheikh Humaid bin Abdulaziz Al Nuaimi. The fort consists of four rooms and two towers, with each tower having two rooms. After undergoing restoration in 1986, a third tower was subsequently added. The Red Fort gets its name from the red plaster that was used to construct its walls. Sandalwood was utilised in the construction of the roofs, specifically in the beams and supports. The fort is nestled amidst a dense forest, with trees surrounding it from all sides. Adding to its charm, there is a picturesque well located near the building, serving as a source of drinking water.
